| Like all medical specialists, family practice requires additional years of study and training beyond medical school and internship, including the completion of an accredited residency, and is regulated by a national board that sets standards for physicians specializing in family medicine. Family Medicine is the only specialty that requires the completion of a Board exam every seven years to maintain certification. Family practice training includes the diagnosis and treatment of most illnesses and injuries, the management of pregnancy, labor and delivery as well as comprehensive preventive health care for all ages. We work closely with other medical and surgical specialists and involve them in our patient care whenever appropriate.
